ABOUT US

The goal of Malindy Music, Inc. is to discover, groom, and introduce new artist to the real world of music by creating, playing, and performing live music.

After many years of managing and producing acts, John Swanson, CEO of Malindy Music, Inc. conceived the notion that with the mere talent that surrounded him, he could go into any studio and achieve and independent commercial product that would rival any of today’s reproductions of original R&B and/or Jazz music.

Albeit our current music is classified as R&B/Jazz, and adult contemporary with a Latin funk flavor, our future endeavors may include Gospel, Rap, and Country.

Malindy Music, Inc. was founded and first named Bullet Proof Productions, Inc. in December of 1982. The first act signed to company was the Sai Whatt Band (pronounced Say What). Under the guidance of the founder, John Swanson, the Sai Whatt Band was signed to a major recording deal with the Total Experience Record Company. The group performed under the stage name of Prime Time. Prime Time members were Jimmy Hamilton, Frankie (Babe) Moore, Dale Hightower, and Maurice Nestor Hayes. Their label mates were the Gap Band, Yarbrough & Peoples, Switch, Pennye Ford, Billy Paul, and Goodie.

Malindy Music, under the name of Bullet Proof was responsible for a number of writers and artists landing major deals with the Total Experience Record Company. Some of those artists were Sparkle, Patty Howard, and Denitra Champ. The writers receiving exclusive publishing deals were Rick Adams, Jimmy Hamilton, Maurice Hayes, and Ted Rabb.

Songs out of the Bullet Proof camp were produced and recorded on the Gap Band, Yarbrough & Peoples, Pennye Ford, Prime Time, Klique, and Ganiyu Gee Bello.

John Swanson

JOHN SWANSON John is a manager, producer, executive producer, writer and publisher who received a FCC license in broadcasting in 1969. Although he never became an on air radio personality, John wrote his first freelance commercial (KTYM) in 1969 for the now defunct Total Experience clothing store which evolved into the Total Experience night club, and subsequently into the Total Experience Recording Company.

John has a B.A. degree in business, was the manager of the 1980’s band “Prime Time” which was led by singer songwriter, keyboardist Jimmy Hamilton. The band recorded for the Total Experience Record Company until its close. The band’s label mates were the Gap Band, Yarbrough & Peoples, Pennye Ford, Goodie, Switch, and Billy Paul amongst others.

John has also managed the little known recording act “Sparkle” along with a host of songwriters, and producers that were assigned to the Total Experience Record Company. Jimmy Hamilton who was managed by John is one of the writers that managed to attain platinum status with songs recorded by the Gap Band and Yarbrough and Peoples.

The entertainment bug bit John when his mother took him to see gospel groups such as the Soulsters, The Caravans & Little Shirley Caesar. Needless to say, the fascination of this introduction led to John joining church and began singing in the choir. John at this point coaxed his mother into buying him an acoustic guitar which he taught himself to play a number of Jimmy Reed tunes. John later abandoned the guitar for high school sports.

Following a stint in the military, and years working as a civil servant, John returned to music. John’s biggest contribution has been his uncanny ability to assemble and cultivate talent.
